Why Drink Wine When You Can Take a Pill

People often say: “Red wine is good for you!”  Well, the French are taking this theory to a whole new level. Several studies have suggested that moderate consumption of red wine can help ward off cancer and heart disease. Red wine is rich in antioxidants, which are derived from grape skins and seeds.

While facing decreased wine sales and reduced government subsidies, French wineries are now attempting to create a dietary supplement based on a wine extract.  These dietary supplements will most likely contain concentrated amounts of polyphenols – a group of antioxidants thought to protect against cancer and heart disease.

Next time you are out having dinner, you may find yourself asking the waiter for a pill of Bordeaux. It may not be as fun as a glass of wine, but it certainly looks like it is going to be just as good for you.
